Making your pool safe

Pool responsibility

Having a pool is a real joy to homeowners, but it also comes with a responsibility. Pools should be made safe and secure to avoid accidents. Luckily, there are many options for protecting those around you who can't or shouldn't swim on their own.

Pool Fences

Fences are a very straightforward way to keep your pool safe a secure. Pool safety fences come in a variety of sizes and styles, and can be made to match your pool and yard beautifully. They can also be equipped with an alarm that alerts you if the gate has been opened or has been left ajar.

Safety covers

Aside from the typical winter cover, there are a variety of options for safety covers that can be easily put on an removed. There are very lightweight mesh covers which will also keep unwanted leaves off of the surface of the water. In addition to this, there are nets that stretch across the surface of the pool. These are easier to put on and take off than the mesh covers, but will also allow leaves to pass through the cover.

Alarms

Another solution is an alarm that is installed on the rim of the pool. It triggers the alarm any time a wave is generated, which will alert you if someone has unexpectedly entered the pool. However, these alarms do tend to produce many false alarms, as they will also detect any object that falls into the pool (a ball, tree branch, bird, etc.)

Pool Camera

Having a camera that watches your pool 24/7 is another option for many homeowners. Cameras designed specifically for pool safety can alert the owner any time someone comes to close to the edge of the pool. These cameras can be set up via an app to your phone, allowing you to receive a notification anytime someone has come too close to the pool for comfort. Many cameras can also recognize humans specifically, which helps limit the amount of false alarms.
